How was it?
“I absolutely loved collaborating with the three composers on the scheme over a long period. I think this opportunity to work closely with creators for an extended amount of time is really rare and it was eye-opening to understand the processes that go into writing a piece.” - Emily Trubshaw
“I found the scheme extremely beneficial and enriching artistically due to the range of projects. From fluxus, to a Spatial Audio soundscape, to concert works, the scheme really allowed us to exist artistically in all mediums. It brought us as composers very close to the performers, of which we already have long standing collaborations with and which they know our languages very well.” - Alex Papp
“The scheme gave me full permission to be curious without feeling I had to fit into a particular mold. It was my first real taste of artistic freedom after being so classically trained since I was three. Working especially with Aaron, Siwan and Heather really showed me that there are no boundaries, and that there is so much to explore in what art can mean and become. I’m really proud of how much more open I’ve become as an artist through this residency - it has been a huge part of shaping my current artistic voice, much more than I can express. Playing with the Riot members was also so inspiring to me, it meant a lot to be able to play with musicians whom I admired greatly.” - Bridget Yee
“I feel so lucky to have been part of this - the fact that the scheme is three years long is so rare and generous, the projects were fantastic, and being encouraged to experiment and take risks was something I really valued and learnt from.”
- Andrea Balency-Béarn
Favourite Moments?
“My favourite memory from the scheme was the Yoko Ono concert. I’ve never felt so creatively free and excited. Also, (although don’t know if this counts as part of the scheme) performing with you in Munich was one of the most fun and exciting projects I’ve played in.“ - Daisy Noton
“One of my favourite memories was the Duo Concerto project. It was such a fun experience getting to play keys and piano at the same time, which was a first for me. The scheme also introduced me to working with electronics, which I’m now so interested in and definitely will explore further. I think the concerto project really shifted something in my music-making, confidence and artistic identity.” - Bridget Yee
